Whether you are just starting out in homeschooling or have started teaching at home for years, you can go to an intersection where you decide whether to run a formal or relaxed homeschool.
The right way to homeschool
You will quickly find that there is no single right way to homeschool. Every family is different and therefore the means and methods, the work for the children will be different. What family shouldn’t work for others. There are several basic types of no school to choose from, including:
- Charlotte Mason
Any of the above methods will also work with a relaxed homeschool atmosphere. Just because you choose a structured curriculum does not mean that you are not relaxed in your approach. The last thing every parent wants is a stressful home school and stressed out kids. Basically, a relaxed home is not so much a process as teaching at home, but rather an attitude and delivery of the chosen method.
Ideas for a relaxed homeschool atmosphere
There are many ways to create a relaxed home environment.
Parents need to relax
There are many fears that come with the decision, Homeschooling is starting to come. Many parents fear that they will miss something important concept and lessons "ruin" their child forever. Perhaps you are missing from a subject or other and worry that your child will miss out on important information he or she will need to be a competitive worker one day.
While these fears are normal as you soon discover how you talk to other homeschooling parents, they can be overcome. In fact, the majority of home-schooled students excel, whether with a formal curriculum or under an unschooling approach. Even if a key term is missed, it can be learned quickly by a motivated student. A homeschool parent mentioned that her daughter picked up three years of math within one year once she found the motivation to do so.
Thinking outside the box
If you start school from 7am, your kids sit at the desk and fill out the same worksheets The school uses, you may not be taking on one of the many benefits of homeschooling, which is the time to really explore concepts, Your children will be interested and let him or her discover the joys of self-learning. Why does everything have to be on a desk or table? There is nothing wrong with letting your child read a book while she is resting in a hammock swaying in the wind. Or how about floating in a plastic tube in the pool and reading Robinson Crusoe?
Nothing replaces real life experience
Your child may have read about horses for months, but until she gets to visit a local stable and spend the week working with these beautiful, magnificent animals, there are many aspects of horses she will not fully understand. Look for ways to add book knowledge to practical knowledge. If you are studying about bees, visit a local beekeeper for the day. To learn how plants grow? Visit the local one kindergarten and get the owner’s brain. This will also translate into a relaxed learning method and great memories and fun for the whole family.
Try to remember what it was like to be a child. If your son wants to hang his head off the couch and read a book, let him. At least he is reading, and learning. Does your daughter want some music softly in the background while she does her math? Why not? You are at home, and as long as she is doing her job and learning should be designed with some flexibility.
Some final thoughts on relaxing
Remember that while you are going to school at home, you are not really a traditional school. Simply by doing things in a way that is best for your family works, you will finally be more relaxed and happy schooler. Relaxed means go with the ebb and flow of life usually sends the way. If you need to break the school day into several parts, you have to start a week for a family emergency or have to do unschooling for a while, and then switch back to classic elements, there is nothing to worry about. Your kids will learn what they need to do in their homeschooling career in this world and gaps are easy and quick to fill with a little hard work. So, take a deep breath and just relax.
